Maritime Partners, a Louisiana-based leader in maritime financing, has officially acquired e1 Marine, a company at the forefront of hydrogen generation technology for the marine industry. The announcement marks a significant step forward in Maritime Partners’ mission to enable cleaner, more sustainable marine operations.
e1 Marine was originally established as a joint venture between Maritime Partners, Element 1, and Ardmore Shipping, with a shared vision of delivering practical clean energy solutions. At the core of e1 Marine’s offering is its methanol-to-hydrogen generation technology—licensed from Element 1 Corp—which provides a scalable, efficient and low-emission alternative to conventional marine fuels.
“This acquisition marks a significant milestone in Maritime Partners’ commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation,” said Bick Brooks, co-founder and CEO of Maritime Partners. “Integrating e1 Marine’s cutting-edge technology with our operational expertise positions us to reshape the future of marine propulsion.”
Element 1 Corp, the original licensor of the hydrogen generation technology, will continue to support the development and deployment of this clean energy solution.
“We’re proud to support Maritime Partners and e1 Marine in this journey,” said Dave Edlund, CEO of Element 1. “Their commitment to environmental stewardship and ability to execute are truly impressive.”
The technology is already being put into action with Hydrogen One, a groundbreaking towboat project that will be the first of its kind powered by onboard hydrogen generation. The vessel will be built by Intracoastal Iron Works and operated by American Commercial Barge Line. Earlier this year, Maritime Partners secured a Design Basis Agreement (DBA) with the U.S. Coast Guard—an important regulatory milestone that clears the way for Hydrogen One’s deployment.
“This acquisition, alongside the development of Hydrogen One, underscores our long-term commitment to clean energy solutions,” said Dave Lee, VP of Technology & Innovation at Maritime Partners. “We’re focused on delivering practical, sustainable technologies as the maritime industry continues its transition to greener fuel options.”
